Discuss psychological explanations of one eating disorder

Examine Psychological clarifications of one dietary issue. (8+16) Psychological clarifications of stoutness Include the psychodrama and the behaviorism approach. Behaviorism proposes three methods by which weight may happen; traditional molding, operant molding and social learning hypothesis. There Is a lot of proof for the social clarification. Traditional molding is the place eating becomes related with different practices that are regularly normal, prompting eating when not ravenous for instance eating while viewing TV.Evidence for this as a reason for stoutness originates from Fletcher et alls ‘Do something other than what's expected' study which shows how breaking such routine affiliations forestalls indulging, thus prompts weight reduction, in any event, for individuals who are not really abstaining from excessive food intake. Moreover, proof for the job of operant molding, which is identified with food being utilized as a prize, originates from Wanting at al who noticed that individuals can go to food and eat exorbitantly for comfort, utilizing food as a reward. However, operant molding alone can't clarify stoutness, as we probably am aware there are organic variables which influence how compensating hold nourishments are, thusly the conduct approach as a clarification of weight can be viewed as reductionism. Operant molding, in spite of the fact that not offering a full clarification for the reasons for weight, benefits have useful applications. Strategies utilizing operant molding have been exceptionally effective in strengthening smart dieting practices.Devoid and Yankton found Up's on such a developer has a normal weight reduction of between 1 5 and 20 Lbs on the plan. Be that as it may, Just on the grounds that it is effective in rewarding the dietary problem doesn't mean it tends to be viewed as a suitable purpose for corpulence. Social Learning hypothesis is the third methods by which the behaviorism approach recommends stoutness may happen a nd it proposes that heftiness is because of watching and copying fat good examples, especially individuals we relate to in some way.In request for this to be substantial, the connection between one corpulent individual and the good examples around them must be surveyed. Chalks and Fowler did Just that and found that an individual's possibility of getting large Increased by 57% If they had a companion who got hefty. Notwithstanding, albeit numerous superfluous factors were enthroned in this investigation, it was still just connection in nature and relationship doesn't show causation meaning different factors, for example, science or culture can't be precluded as other conceivable contributing elements to obesity.Although there is a lot of proof to help the behaviorism approach it tends to be viewed as restricted as it disregards organic and hereditary elements that likewise have a lot of help with respect to causing stoutness, egg Standard et al who found a solid connection among rec eived and hereditary mother's weight and no connection among embraced and supportive field's weight. In any case, taking the deterministic idea of the behaviorism approach as a constructive It has a hopeful message concerning beating obesity.Due to the reality the premise of the behaviorism approach Is that all practices are found out and can in this manner be unlearned, implies that large individuals might be all the more ready to take a stab at slimming down and different types of way of life change more promptly than if they pointless. There is an issue with this view anyway as it centers around the job of sustain instead of nature which can frequently make fault be put onto guardians for their honey bees children. While now and again this can have a beneficial outcome as the parent understands the need of teaching their youngster on solid food decisions and not partner certain exercises with food, it can likewise raise moral issues as families are not shielded from potential enth usiastic damage from being accused for their fat kid's medical problems. Notwithstanding the behaviorism clarification of heftiness, the psychodrama clarification of stoutness offers an option on the reasons for this eating disorder. The psychodrama clarification of corpulence is based around Fraud's incept of issue practices in grown-up hood being because of uncertain clashes that happened during youth improvement through the psychosocial stages with weight being connected to oblivious wants of the oral stage. This could be brought about by an absence of satisfaction in the oral stage or over delight and both could prompt corpulence. Proof for the job of the ID (a structure of the oblivious brain that is worried about satisfying needs) and oral obsession originate from Grant and Borders who found that grown-up depression was a key issue in indulging for all Up's.Furthermore, transported Up's pre-owned food to ‘numb torment' though non manhandled Up's pre-owned it to reproduce warmth and sustaining experienced in youth that they missed in their forlorn grown-up life. This shows the impact of both under and over satisfaction in the oral phase of psychosocial advancement. It appears that as a grown-up, enthusiastic challenges or injury may prompt relapse to the oral stage along these lines gorging. Eating may likewise result as a substitute for affection. However there are a couple of issues with this examination; there was just an exceptionally little example and the way that the exploration was delicate implies that the unwavering quality of Up's review might be sketchy. Be that as it may, similarly as with the conduct approach, there are handy applications related with the psychodrama approach for instance it features the requirement for social help; if an individual doesn't feel desolate during a period of passionate trouble, it appears the relapse back to the oral stage and in this manner gorging may not occur. In expansion to social help, the psychodram a clarification of stoutness features the reason which would then be able to be utilized to treat corpulence, which for this situation is a manifestation of a bigger issue; Hereford there is hopefulness joined to this clarification likewise with the behaviorism approach. Besides, Rounded et al has likewise discovered a connection between youth misuse and stoutness. They found that kid sexual maltreatment is related with a multiplying of chances of weight in a phone test of 4,641 women. However by and by there are methodological issues seeing this exploration as it is geocentric so can't be sums up to the more extensive populace of the two people it needs populace legitimacy. There is additionally further steady proof from Williamson et al who discovered NY type of misuse can prompt an expanded possibility of weight demonstrating relapse into adolescence and the oral stage so as to discover missed gratification. However, there are numerous issues with respect to the psychodrama approac h including the way that it can't be researched logically utilizing the highlights of science that brain research endeavors to follow. It is theoretical in nature and dependent on theory of the brain as opposed to logical certainty. Along these lines the legitimacy and dependability of the clarification of stoutness is extremely low. It can never be logically demonstrated because of its temperament so will

Practical Classroom Strategies to Promote L2 Oral Fluency Free Essay Example, 2000 words

Collocation phrases, phrasal verbs and idioms are the most commonly used chunks in teaching of second language to promote oral fluency. Other chunks that are used include common polite expressions like ‘take a seat’. These polite expressions are used in everyday communication and when the L2 teacher uses them in teaching a second language, the fluency of the learner is greatly improved (Birch, 2014). Moskal & Camille (2006) characterize chunks that can be effectively used to promote oral fluency in a second language. Some of the characteristics of the chunks include phonological coherence, repeated use and greater complexity as compared to the other learner’s output. Chunks are also repeatedly used and are always in the same form. This is in addition to the fact that their use is situation dependent. In order to promote oral fluency, L2 learners can be made to listen to a recorded tape in that second language and be asked to identify the various commonly used chunks. This allows them to understand and appreciate how the common chunks are used in various contexts, rather than focusing on the meaning of the words in the language. Focusing on Fluency Instead of Grammar Many students are afraid of making grammatical mistakes in the language that they are learning. We will write a custom essay sample on Practical Classroom Strategies to Promote L2 Oral Fluency or any topic specifically for you Only $17.96 $11.86/pageorder now The reason why this is the case is due to the fact that they are afraid of making a mistake under the watch of their peers or fellow learners. This can be avoided by the teacher explaining the error patterns of the natives, minimizing grammatical error correction and taking errors as a skill that the L2 learners need to master in order to be fluent in the second language. Teaching oral fluency in a second language is quite different from teaching the various other aspects of a language. In teaching and promoting fluency, the L2 teacher should be willing to let go some of the control in the classroom (Derwing et al. , 2004). This allows for the setting up of a situation where fluency can be developed and also encourage the students to be communicative. Unlike the teaching of language knowledge, promoting and teaching fluency is considered to be the ‘automatization’ of the language knowledge. Being fluent is something that is automatic, and that does not require much attention. This is because it is a process that is characterized by psycholinguistic processes associated with that particular language. This automatically occurs when the teacher focuses on the fluency of the speaker rather than on the grammar of the sentences that are made or constructed by the speaker or learner.

Civil Rights

Question: Write weekly reaction notes, in response to discussion prompts posted on blackboard for that weeks class session. This exercise is intended to give you the opportunity to practice your writing, and is also meant to help you prepare for in-class discussion by prompting you to think through the materials and react to them. Answer: Civil rights: Rights protecting the person with disabilities: Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973: it is the federal law protecting the individual facing the discrimination based upon the disability. Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a different law protecting and prohibiting the discrimination practice in regards to the physically challenged person. It acts in the same manner, by which sec 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, 1973ACT. There are certain people who qualify to enter in the class of disability. It is painful to see that in such a modern age, there is a class separate for the physically challenged people. They can always term as the specially abled individual since many of them are capable of various activities (hhs.gov 2016). Hence, there are some rights to protect them like: Apply with the eligibility criteria. Refuse participant allowance. Provide various beneficial services. Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act says about the protection means for the discriminated class. Not only the discrimination occurs with the physical disability or such kind, but even the discrimination can also be observed in the places for gender as well as the caste (gov.uk 2016). The Department of Health and Human services introduced some fund system for the socially discriminated class for their upliftment. Rights for the person having HIV and AIDS: Discrimination may occur when any organization prevents any HIV positive person from participating in a certain program. But our concern must be such that if the person is able with the criteria mentioned, then preventing on the ground of physical illness is the violation of the civil rights. There must be the reasonable accommodation for such person, but denouncing is against the civil norms. The act of ADA protects the other person from getting discriminated on the ground that either some of their family members or the friends suffer from the disease. It is also important to spread awareness regarding the consequences that may or may not occur, and all the individual needs training to take precautions accordingly. The department that receives the funds are hospitals, rehabilitation centers, foster care homes and many other nutritional programs to name a few (aclu.org). For the protection of the Civil rights, there are options available to file a complaint against those who violate them. The system kept is very simple which includes the written document with the name mentioned along with the address and the name against whom such report made. Then the person must send it to the office of the civil rights where there is some assistance available free of cost. Social security(supplemental security income): Supplemental security is the monthly income for some low paid individuals on certain grounds that includes the senior citizens, blind and physically challenged. For the disable and blind, the SSI will vary with the income of the parents of such victims. Various stated have various amount offered depending on the necessity of the situation. It is a helpful method since the calculation is based on the benefit of the family which excludes various parts in the income along with the SNAP benefits and some NGOs (ssa.gov2016). Patriotism Essays (383 words) - Patriotism, Communism,

Where would our country be without patriotism? Where would we be without patriotism? Would we be living in a Communist county? Would we have freedom, rights and security? Those are questions you should think about. Patriotism was in the brave Patriots and our founding fathers who came together and built our nation. Patriotism still matters to this day because we?re all still patriots at heart. We still fight to support our freedom and security. How would you like to live in a nation that picks who you marry, chooses where to live, makes you work a job that you might not want to, and does not allow you the freedom to speak your mind? If the people who founded our country did not have patriotism in mind, that is how we would be living. Even in present time, if our soldiers do not have patriotism, we would have lost our freedom. The American Government and Armed Forces do their best to prevent the spread of Communism and replace Communist Governments with Democracy. Or how about 9/11/01, after the terrorists attacked, our country did not sit around and moan, we stood up and fought back and took charge to show that we will do something about it. Without patriotism, we would be ruled by Great Britain because we wouldn?t have successfully revolted against Great Britain?s government. Great Britain is allies with us, but with all due respect, we wouldn?t be free. Our government is divided into three branches. Not one branch has more or less power that the other. Our system of government is headed by a President rather than a King. I?m not too sure about Britain?s government but to my knowledge, I believe they are still ruled by a King. Again, with all due respect, I believe America is a more free, a safer, and stronger country than Great Britain. Patriotism just doesn?t still matter, it is essential to our country. Patriotism was present on the day our county was born, and will still be here until the end of the world. Patriotism is like water to a plant. When a plant is given water, it grows stronger. The same applies to patriotism. When patriotism remains present in our country, our country grows stronger.

Free Essays on Zeno Ans The First Paradox Of Motion

Name: Preven Chetty Zeno of Elea and the first paradox of motion {including its correlation to the theory on Maya and an appendix on Lao Tzu} - In order to understand Zeno and his arguments against motion it would be helpful to know his background. This is difficult because Zeno was alive in 450 B.C and there are few materials about him. Most of our information is indirect and possibly all of Zeno’s arguments on motion have emerged from one book. What we can safely assume however was that Zeno was a disciple of Parmenides and a supporter of his theories. Background Theories Parmenides (c.515,445 B.C) believed that there is no real change in the world and that all of reality is actually one. Parmenides changed the course of Greek philosophy and not until Plato and Aristotle (384-322 BC) would any philosopher challenge his metaphysical assumptions. Parmenides writings are in the form of a philosophical poem and in the poem it is said that he was driven in a chariot to the gates of light and dark where he met a divine goddess who showed him that reality cannot be generated or destroyed, is all alike, unmoved and complete ( Mautner, T, 1996). It would be interesting to note at this point that Parmenides monistic view of the world is not only to be found in secular Greek philosophy but it is also the foundation of Indian philosophy. In ancient India, even before the time of Parmenides there was a growing consensus amongst scholars that the universe is illusory and is a projection of the One Being. Thus reality is an illusion (also known as Maya) and its varied and changing nature is false for it is in essence one thing (Edgerton, F, 1952). Common in Indian philosophy is the idea that the senses are also a product of Maya (i.e. : ignorance). Desire is perceived as false since it is born out of ignor... Analysis on Mi Abuelo

The grandfather released his angst through the narrator. The conflict of the poem is that the narrator could not understand why the grandfather always told him that his hair is a sieve. He argues with the grandfather saying that his hair is not a sieve but the old man continued to insist the sieve hair. From this context, it was seen that the character is a weak person because he could not show his real emotions towards one situation or thing. He turned his guilt and insanity towards other people to hide the complexities of thinking. The author attacked within the poem in a simple rationalization. As the reader, I saw two different conflicts that emerged in the whole poem but the author resolved only one conflict, which is the narrator’s conflicts towards the issue of having a sieve hair but the grandfather’s conflict within his own self was unresolved. The sieve hair in the poem symbolizes the life of the grandfather. His journey and struggle were sieved in an untangled path of existence. He said that the narrator’s hair is a sieve because by the end of it all, the narrator’s life will be the same as the grandfather. In terms of the poem’s construction, it was not fully understandable because the author’s way of dividing each line and stanzas do not have complete essence. Each line could not stand its own meaning alone because it depends on the next line in a complex manner. The term â€Å"Mi Abuelo† was not thoroughly defined. This term was only compared to the grandfather without justification of its true essence and meaning as a word. Because of this, readers would become confuse with the statement of Mi Abuelo and being the title of the poem. Despite of it all, the poem is a simple thing that is easy to understand and discuss. It shows the life and issues that old people used to obtain whether it is meaningless or senseless, for them these are still important and relevant to life.    Reference (1982). The Relationship between Animal Abuse and Human Abuse Essay

The Relationship between Animal Abuse and Human Abuse - Essay Example Abuse to animals is a horrible crime that ultimately touches us all, both as a society and as individuals. It is a documented fact that many serial killers began their life of violent crime by abusing animals. The evidence is in - it can no longer be denied: There is a connection between animal abuse and violent acts against humans such as domestic violence, elder abuse, child abuse and murder. Recent research has indicated that animal abuse and other forms of family violence often co-occur. Further, a child's violence towards animals is an indicator of potential future violence towards people Given these links, human and animal welfare organizations are beginning to work together to better detect and prevent violence towards both animals and people. In some parts of the U.S. these initiatives have been incorporated into the legal framework. Partello (1997) found that pets fill a variety of human needs, from acting as child substitutes, to providing companionship and unconditional love. These companion animals no longer live in barns and kennels but are an integral part of the human family. Ironically, this means that they suffer at the hands of abusers, just as children do. In a study by DeViney, Dickert, and Lockwood (1983) it was found that companion animals were abused in 88% of the families in which children were abused. Because abuse of animals by children invariably signals great distress, parents and other significant adults need to be informed that certain forms and/or patterns of cruelty should not be dismissed as typical childhood actions. You will note that cruelty to animals can be a sign of conduct disorder, and hurting animals is considered one of the earliest reported symptoms. A child's cruelty toward another animal can be an attempt to gain control over a creature that is smaller and weaker and may be the only way the child can feel powerful. It may reflect a desire to inflict pain or be a displacement of hostility. A child experiencing brutalization may also act on it towards animals. It is imperative that social workers, teachers, administrators, and psychologists become aware of animal abuse and its relationship to human violence so that they can design appropriate prevention and intervention programs. Primary prevention may focus on educational programs that protect children with clear guidelines for acceptable behavior with animals. Because abuse of animals by children invariably signals great distress, parents and other significant adults need to be informed that certain forms and/or patterns of cruelty should 4 not be dismissed as typical childhood actions. Compare and contrast marx and weber's theory of mondern domination Essay

Compare and contrast marx and weber's theory of mondern domination - Essay Example Marx argued that this is main feature of capitalism. Markets existed in Europe before the advent of capitalism where commodities were bought and sold. Capitalism developed as peasants became free to sell their labor power. They no longer possessed their own land. In return they received money which allows them to survive. He termed the peasants who sold their labor as â€Å"proletarians†. Marx stated that the struggle between capitalists and workers determines the wages in which victory is for the capitalists. The capitalists are more united and can live longer as compared with the workers (Tucker, 48). The wage rate determined by the capitalist is very low for the worker because it is at the subsistence level. It allows the worker to survive and support his family only. Capitalism also leads to production of men as commodities. The worker is treated like a commodity under the capitalist system. An excess supply of workers leads many to become beggars or starve. The life of th e worker is dependant on the whims and desires of the rich and capitalists. Any fluctuations in the market price make the worker lose everything. The capitalist can direct capital into another channel which forces the workers to submit to every demand of the capitalist (Tucker 52). Karl Marx stated the worker does not gain anything beneficial when the capitalist does, but he always loses when the latter loses. Marx explained that workers are eventually the losers because of the monopolies and trade secrets of the capitalist. The prices of labor are constant as compared with the prices of other commodities. The wages of the labor are different when compared with the profits of the capitalists. Marx believed that individual activity should be rewarded but capitalism denies that reward and is indifferent to individual activity. Generally Karl observed that workers have to

OBriens Things They Carried Essay: Truth, Fiction, and Human Emotion

The Things They Carried: Truth, Fiction, and Human Emotion  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   There are many levels of truth in Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried. This novel deals with story-telling as an act of communication and therapy, rather than a mere recital of fact. In the telling of war stories, and instruction in their telling, O'Brien shows that truth is unimportant in communicating human emotion through stories. O'Brien's writing style is so vivid, the reader frequently finds himself accepting the events and details of this novel as absolute fact. To contrast truth and fiction, the author inserts reminders that the stories are not fact, but are mere representations of human emotion incommunicable as fact. O'Brien's most direct discussion of truth appears in Good Form. He begins with, "It's time to be blunt," and goes on to say that everything in the book but the very premise of a foot soldier in Vietnam is invented. This comes as a shock after reading what seems to be a stylized presentation of fact. In the sequence of Speaking of Courage followed by Notes, O'Brien adds a second dimension of truth to a story so vivid that the reader may have already accepted it as the original truth. In Notes, O'Brien steps out of the novel and addresses the reader to discuss the character, Norman Bowker, and the formation and history of the previous story, Speaking of Courage. In a letter from Norman Bowker, Tim O'Brien is asked to write a story about his part in the war. In discussing this, O'Brien presents an elaborate picture of the story's development and the main character's real-life demise: "Speaking of Courage" was written in 1975 at the suggestion of Norman Bowker, who three years later hanged himself in the locker room of a YMC... ...O'Brien goes beyond the telling of war stories in The Things They Carried to say something larger about the art and purpose of story-telling. Contrasting truth and fiction, O'Brien shows that the truth cannot always communicate human emotion. O'Brien's personal guilt at seeing a man die from a grenade blast is real, and must be communicated as such in a story. Norman Bowker's guilt at seeing Kiowa sink into the muck leaves him with a sense of direct personal failure. By incorporating this sense of failure into fictional events, O'Brien is able to communicate the true human emotion behind the story, rather than just the facts. Above and beyond a simple set of war stories, The Things They Carried reduces fiction to the very heart of why stories are told the way they are. Works Cited: O'Brien, Tim. Education and Gender Equality

Gender Inequality and Education World Health Organization defines gender inequality as ’the difference between men and women which systematically empowers one group to detriment of the other. ’1 For an example, throughout in world, women have lower cash income on average than men. Gender values and norms can give rise to gender inequalities which when combined with gender differences give rise to inequalities between men and women in access to education. For example a girl or woman is unable to access the education because the norms in her community prevent her from doing so.Another example from developing countries can be that, children are unable to get education as they need to work hard to support the family, as accessing food and money is their major priority, for living may be. The given table of education presents the percentage ratios of variables like; literacy rates, participation to pre-primary, primary and secondary school participation in between male and f emale and access to internet and mobile phones per hundred population, in different countries and regions.Generally speaking we observe that the percentage ratio in accessing education is higher among developed countries as compared to developing countries. But we also observe strikingly high difference of education-participation among developing countries when we take a look at them, especially developing countries from the South-East Region. For example Sri Lanka and Maldives come up with very high education-participation ratio which is extra-ordinary.And I have discussed it in one of group-mate discussion post that Sri Lanka is a country where Education is given one of higher priority and facilitated free of cost by the government from the pre-primary level up-to university level. Maldives is a rich and well established state and the education is on top priority by the government which makes it easily and highly accessible to everyone.Talking about access to internet and mobile p hone per hundred population, a surprising fact comes up that the users of these devices are higher in rich and developed countries but especially the countries in European region, for example Finland, Croatia, Germany, Italy, etc. But we also observe that the use of mobile phone is very much higher if compare them with internet usage. The main reason can be the very easy and lower cost of access to mobile phones everywhere as it is one of the most useable devices for social-communication in the world. On the other hand, accessing to internet is not always easy and available in all parts within a country, especially in rural areas and it can be very expensive to afford sometimes. If I talk about my country, Pakistan, being the second largest Muslim country after Indonesia, gender inequality in education still exists despite the Noble Quran’s spirit of â€Å"Iqra† (Read/Study). The main reasons for holding back gender equality of education are gender discrimination, early marriage and pregnancy, cultural stereotypes, etc.As a conclusion I believe achieving education for all requires a truly global commitment. A lot of work needs to be done in this aspect and to make complete the goals of the United Nations’ Millennium Development Program for achieving universal primary education, promotion gender equality and empowering women. Biography of Field Marshal Walter Model, WWII German Commander

Born January 24, 1891, Walter Model was the son of a music teacher in Genthin, Saxony. Seeking a military career, he entered an army officer cadet school in Neisse in 1908. A middling student, Model, graduated in 1910 and was commissioned as a lieutenant in the 52nd Infantry Regiment. Though possessing a blunt personality and often lacking tact, he proved a capable and driven officer. With the outbreak of World War I in 1914, Models regiment was ordered to the Western Front as part of the 5th Division. The following year, he won the Iron Cross, First Class for his actions in combat near Arras. His strong performance in the field garnered the attention of his superiors, and he was selected for a posting with the German General Staff the following year. Leaving his regiment after the initial stages of the Battle of Verdun, Model attended the required staff courses. Returning to the 5th Division, Model became adjutant of the 10th Infantry Brigade before commanding companies in the 52nd Regiment and the 8th Life Grenadiers. Elevated to captain in November 1917, he received the House Order of Hohenzollern with Swords for bravery in combat. The following year, Model served on the staff of the Guard Ersatz Division before finishing the conflict with the 36th Division. With the end of the war, Model applied to be part of the new, small Reichswehr. Already known as a gifted officer, his application was aided by a connection to General Hans von Seeckt who was tasked with organizing the postwar army. Accepted, he aided in putting down a Communist revolt in the Ruhr during 1920. Interwar Years Settling into his new role, Model married Herta Huyssen in 1921. Four years later, he received a transfer to the elite 3rd Infantry Division where he aided in testing new equipment. Made a staff officer for the division in 1928, Model lectured widely on military topics and was promoted to major the following year. Advancing in the service, he was shifted to the Truppenamt, a cover organization for the German General staff, in 1930. Pushing hard to modernize the Reichswehr, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1932 and colonel in 1934. After serving as a battalion commander with the 2nd Infantry Regiment, Model joined the General Staff in Berlin. Remaining until 1938, he then became chief of staff for IV Corps before being elevated to brigadier general a year later. Model was in this role when World War II began on September 1, 1939. World War II Advancing as part of Colonel General Gerd von Rundstedts Army Group South, IV Corps took part in the invasion of Poland that fall. Promoted to major general in April 1940, Model served as chief of staff for Sixteenth Army during the Battle of France in May and June. Again impressing, he earned command of the 3rd Panzer Division that November. An advocate of combined arms training, he pioneered the use of kampfgruppen which saw the formation of ad-hoc units consisting of armor, infantry, and engineers. As the Western Front quieted after the Battle of Britain, Models division was shifted east for the invasion of the Soviet Union. Attacking on June 22, 1941, the 3rd Panzer Division served as part of Colonel General Heinz Guderians Panzergruppe 2. On the Eastern Front Surging forward, Models troops reached the Dnieper River on July 4, a feat which won him the Knights Cross, before executing a highly-successful crossing operation six days later. After breaking up Red Army forces near Roslavl, Model turned south as part of Guderians thrust in support of German operations around Kiev. Spearheading Guderians command, Models division linked up with other German forces on September 16 to complete the encirclement of the city. Promoted to lieutenant general on October 1, he was given command of XLI Panzer Corps which was taking part in the Battle of Moscow. Arriving at his new headquarters, near Kalinin, on November 14, Model found the corps severely hampered by the increasingly cold weather and suffering from supply issues. Working tirelessly, Model restarted the German advance and reached a point 22 miles from the city before the weather forced a halt. On December 5, the Soviets launched a massive counterattack which forced the Germans back from Moscow. In the fighting, Model was tasked with covering the Third Panzer Groups retreat to the Lama River. Skillful in defense, he performed admirably. These efforts were noticed, and in early 1942 he received command of the German Ninth Army in the Rzhev salient and was promoted to general. Though in a precarious position, Model worked to strengthen his armys defenses as well as began a series of counterattacks against the enemy. As 1942 progressed, he succeeded in encircling and destroying the Soviet 39th Army. In March 1943, Model abandoned the salient as part of a wider German strategic effort to shorten their lines. Later that year, he argued that the offensive at Kursk should be delayed until newer equipment, such as the Panther tank, was available in large numbers. Hitlers Fireman Despite Models recommendation, the German offensive at Kursk began on July 5, 1943, with Models Ninth Army attacking from the north. In heavy fighting, his troops were unable to make substantial gains against the strong Soviet defenses. When the Soviets counterattacked a few days later, Model was forced back, but again mounted a stiff defense in the Orel salient before withdrawing behind the Dnieper. At the end of September, Model left the Ninth Army and took a three month long leave in Dresden. Becoming known as Hitlers Fireman for his ability to rescue bad situations, Model was ordered to take over Army Group North in late January 1944 after the Soviets lifted the Siege of Leningrad. Fighting numerous engagements, Model stabilized the front and conducted a fighting withdrawal to the Panther-Wotan Line. On March 1, he was elevated to field marshal. With the situation in Estonia calmed, Model received orders to take over Army Group North Ukraine which was being driven back by Marshal Georgy Zhukov. Halting Zhukov in mid-April, he was shuttled along the front to take command of Army Group Centre on June 28. Facing immense Soviet pressure, Model was unable to hold Minsk or reestablish a cohesive line west of the city. Lacking troops for much of the fighting, he was finally able to halt the Soviets east of Warsaw after receiving reinforcements. Having effectively shored up the bulk of the Eastern Front during the first half of 1944, Model was ordered to France on August 17 and given command of Army Group B and made commander-in-chief of OB West (German Army Command in the West). On the Western Front Having landed in Normandy on June 6, Allied forces shattered the German position in the region during Operation Cobra. Arriving at the front, he initially wished to defend the area around Falaise, where a portion of his command was nearly encircled, but relented and was able to extricate many of his men. Though Hitler demanded that Paris be held, Model responded that it was not possible without an additional 200,000 men. As these were not forthcoming, the Allies liberated the city on August 25 as Models forces retired towards the German frontier. Unable to adequately juggle the responsibilities of his two commands, Model willingly ceded OB West to von Rundstedt in September. Establishing Army Group Bs headquarters at Oosterbeek, Netherlands, Model was successful in limiting Allied gains during Operation Market-Garden in September, and the fighting saw his men crush the British 1st Airborne Division near Arnhem. As the fall progressed, Army Group B came under attack from General Omar Bradleys 12th Army Group. In intense fighting in the HÃ ¼rtgen Forest and Aachen, American troops were forced to pay a heavy cost for each advance as they sought to penetrate the German Siegfried Line (Westwall). During this time, Hitler presented von Rundstedt and Model with plans for a massive counter-offensive designed to take Antwerp and knock the western Allies out of the war. Not believing the plan to be feasible, the two unsuccessfully offered a more limited offensive option to Hitler. As a result, Model moved forward with Hitlers original plan, dubbed Unternehmen Wacht am Rhein (Watch on the Rhine), on December 16. Opening the Battle of the Bulge, Models command attacked through the Ardennes and initially made swift gains against the surprised Allied forces. Combating poor weather and acute shortages of fuel and ammunition, the offensive was spent by December 25. Pressing on, Model continued attacking until January 8, 1945, when he was forced to abandon the offensive. Over the next several weeks, Allied forces steadily reduced the bulge the operation had formed in the lines. Final Days Having angered Hitler for failing to capture Antwerp, Army Group B was directed to hold every inch of ground. Despite this proclamation, Models command was steadily pushed back to and across the Rhine. The Allied crossing of the river was made easier when German forces failed to destroy the key bridge at Remagen. By April 1, Model and Army Group B were encircled the Ruhr by the US Ninth and Fifteenth Armies. Trapped, he received orders from Hitler to turn the region into a fortress and destroy its industries to prevent their capture. While Model ignored the latter directive, his attempts at defense failed as Allied forces cut Army Group B in two on April 15. Though asked to surrender by Major General Matthew Ridgway, Model refused. Unwilling to surrender, but not wishing to throw away the lives of his remaining men, Model ordered Army Group B dissolved. After discharging his youngest and oldest men, he told the remainder that they could decide for themselves whether to surrender or attempt to break through the Allied lines. This move was denounced by Berlin on April 20, with Model and his men being branded as traitors. Already contemplating suicide, Model learned that the Soviets intended to prosecute him for alleged war crimes pertaining to concentration camps in Latvia. Departing his headquarters on April 21, Model attempted to seek death at the front with no success. Later in the day, he shot himself in a wooded area between Duisburg and Lintorf. Initially buried there, his body was moved to a military cemetery in Vossenack in 1955.

Job Satisfaction Mba Thesis Chapter 2 - Literature Review

Paaryveanthan Vellasamy (100227571) CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 Introduction â€Å"Job satisfaction does not seem to reduce absence, turnover and perhaps accident rates†. -Robert L. Kahn â€Å"Job satisfaction is a general attitude towards one’s job: the difference between the amount of reward workers receive and the amount they believe they should receive.† -P. Robbins Job satisfaction defines as â€Å"The amount of over all positive affect (or feeling) that individuals have toward their jobs.† -Hugh J. Arnold and Daniel C. Feldman â€Å"Job satisfaction is the amount of pleasure or contentment associated with a job. If you like your job intensely, you will experience high job satisfaction. Also, profile of employee’s served as the bas is for testing the acceptance and rejection of the hypothesis. The profile includes age, gender, civil status, educational attainment, position, length of stay/service, and service location. Robbins (1989, p. 51) defines personality as â€Å"the sum total of ways in which an individual reacts and interacts with others.† Research indicates that some people are predisposed by virtue of their personality to be more or less satisfied despite the changes to their working environment and other factors (Aamodt, 2004; Johns, 1996). This idea can apparently be traced back to the Hawthorne studies, which found that certain people were continually complaining about their jobs (Spector, 1996). No matter what the researchers did, the participants found a reason to complain. They concluded that their dissatisfaction is a product of their personality. Thus one way to increase the overall level of job satisfaction in an organisation is to recruit applicants who show high levels of overall job and life satisfaction (Aamodt, 2004). Schneider and Dachler (1978) as cited by Spector (1996) also found that job satisfaction seemed stable over time and that itShow MoreRelatedThe Lifestyle of a Filipino Band Member5512 Words   |  23 PagesMEMBER A thesis presented to the Faculty of the Department of AB Communications La Salle College, Antipolo City In partial fulfillment for the requirements of the course Bachelor of Arts in Communications Allan Jarrel J. Ms. Sakshi Free Essays

HIDES has been known as one of the main contributing causes of the declining African economy ever since it started as an epidemic. The commencement of this deadly disease and its sporadic nature caused many deep economic problems, which are currently being experienced by the region. Some of which is because of the various policies and regulations that have been altered due to its unfortunate arrival in the area. We will write a custom essay sample on Ms. Sakshi or any similar topic only for you Order Now The main issues facing most of Africa due to this terrible epidemic are the high expenses of health care and its limited access, poor economic performances, he decline of the labor market, the poor being affected the most, and agricultural loss of farm output. This in return has caused people and African governments to try and come up with policies to mitigate the effects of this terrible disease. These policies were put into place with certain fundamental aspects, which meant to create a positive outcome, in order to restrain all or some of the damages that this disease has brought upon the continent. The World Bank is amongst the most reliable sources that produce data on the economic progress of African countries. It has advised that though there are several elements related to poor economic performance, HIVE/AIDS is among the worst. The effects instigated from this disease can be seen as direct and indirect costs. Direct costs are the ones related to any treatment cost related with HIVE linked illnesses. This has exhibited serious repercussions for health care budgets around the continent. In addition, poverty makes the African population at vulnerable stages since any access to medical care is extremely expensive and most people cannot afford it (Sided 2007). On the other hand, the unintended costs are more problematic to quantify as they present the loss of the current value of future earnings, the loss of current wages, training costs of new staff, value in production, great staff turnover, cost of absenteeism, greater recruitment costs, savings drainages, etc. These costs are not only effecting public companies and the private sector, but also everyone from families, friends and the community at large. Also, the drastic decrease in population, as one predication states that in 2020 the populations in Sub-Sahara Africa will be 3. 2 % less, due to AIDS (African Development Bank Group 1993). In other countries that reduction is more extreme, for example, Uganda by 8% and in Zambia by 12% (Population Newsletter 1992). In the South African region, many studies have been done and macroeconomic modeling practices have been conducted with the aim of determining the probable impacts of AIDS on the South African economy. In one of the models, they have established different economic consequences that have resulted from such disease in the South African region. The channels include low labor force, lower labor productivity through absenteeism and illness. There is so such pressure on organizations to provide benefits and compensation to the victims that have caught the disease. Moreover, life expectancy is dropping to 47 years in Sub Sahara Africa, as oppose to 62 years in the absence of AIDS (Population Newsletter 1992). Which ultimately can have a major negative impact on the entire population. Labor income is being reduced drastically by organizations in anticipation that employees may catch the disease in the longer run. Also, smaller populations are almost always accompanied with low expenditures, and with high death rates due to the disease, (Poke, Widthwise, Sander 2007) this will ultimately lead to a weak economy in the country. The private sector demands from the public health care services to improve in parallel with people’s needs including making a common pledge to have a well-established health care system. That is why the government undertakes high expenditures based on the purchases of highly sensitive equipment’s and medication to enhance the proper care of the disease. AIDS has showed a major severe effect on the gross domestic product of most countries it has affected. This was clearly evident in the South African GAP of the year 2010. The country had anticipated a higher GAP but it was later recorded that it was much less than they had anticipated. This was mainly due to the lack of investment. Many people and families avoided and evaded making medium to long-term investments, because they want to have some money in case they become sick (Katharine 1993:93). Also, the magnitude of the situation is often seen and felt in other aspects of the economy. For instance, AIDS increases urban migration, which puts the current population at risk. Not to mention poverty, and prostitution, that often become the only conditions available for some families. This effect then expands from one sector to the other, one society to the other, and one area to the other. The influence of HIVE/AIDS relative to the household level also has adverse effects in the macro-economic framework. The ramifications of HIVE/AIDS are most damaging at the domestic level of poor families in comparison with rich families. Poor families are usually more affected by this disease than rich families, which consequently cause social instability. By looking at the micro level of society, which is mainly families and individuals, and seeing the effects of such disease, leaves one beseeches. The scenario goes like this, the person get sick/infected; they can’t work and lose income. His/her family will spend more money and time to take care of them. Also, the person who got sick could’ve been a doctor, an engineer, etc. So, by losing the individual not only does the family suffer but the whole society at large (Pangs Instituted). This would only predict an economic downfall of the country in the foreseeable future, if serious governmental measures were not taken. The government and other agencies must look at this problem more seriously and take he proper measures and mechanisms to resolve it, as this issue cannot be solved by one element of the society. Different regions and sectors of a single country can experience major differences of the impact of HIVE/AIDS. Certain parts of a country, due to deep poverty, cultural norms of the resident population, and nearness to the means of transportation, maybe more greatly affected than others. Many public and private sectors of an economy face major threats by the enormous decrease of the workforce, for example, transportation, agriculture, construction, and mining. Sectors hat face the most vulnerability are the ones that most rely on high trained employees who have high rates of AIDS contagion amongst them, like truck drivers, teachers, construction workers, etc. (UNDO n. D. A and Gillespie 1989). HIVE/AIDS is not sufficiently recognized in rural areas due to poor health care standards, limited entry to the health facilities, and insufficient data warehousing. This mainly explains that rural areas are prone to such illnesses due to lack of adequate nursing and access to these services. There are various effects on the rural economies, which comprise allocation of insufficient resources with an accumulative demand for expenditure on health and social services. There is also a threat of collapse of the educational system due to high morbidity and mortality rates amongst educators and learners. There would also be a reduction in productivity mainly due to the replacement of older experienced workers in the field of work. Employers are to face increased labor costs because of low productivity, absenteeism, sick leaves and other benefits that include attending funerals. Premature retirement and added training costs are also significant factors (Poke, 2005). Agricultural production is often the major economic artery of the rural areas in Africa. This includes farming families whose households engage in several physical work Jobs, including home maintenance, in addition to the production of crops and care for animals. Agriculture as a major factor in most of the developing countries provides the living mechanism for almost 80% of the continent’s population (Abdul, Abdul, 2010). Agriculture incurs various obstacles comprising international terms of trade, growing population density on land and environmental degradations. The spreading of HIVE/AIDS poses a major hindrance to the agricultural economy. The major threats that come up with the epidemic are the human resources, the consumption of savings, loss of farm outputs and others that affect productivity. Those problematic threats result due to agricultural downfall, which is caused mainly due to the losses of human resources and alterations of capital from agriculture. Distinguishing the effects caused by the impact of HIVE and the ones caused by other factors may be complicated as they are hardly detectable or distinguishable at times. The effect of HIVE/AIDS on agriculture includes both commercial and subsistence farming. Several studies that have been made on the agricultural sector mainly focus on sectors of the economy dealing with cash crops; which in return limits the scope on how deep this impact goes. Expansion out of the agricultural sector may be complex due to the virtue of the labor impacts and dynamics of the traditional social security. The costs may also be prone to pay off such things as medical care and funerals instead of productive assets (Poke, 2005). Another small scale effect is the internal knowledge of systems ND technology adapted over the years by farmers to suit the conditions of particular areas, which often die with farmers before they could pass the knowledge to other generations, particularly in HIVE/AIDS inflicted regions. On the micro-economic scale also comes the death of breadwinners due to AIDS. Which is another major problem that results in the incremental destruction of societies. This is a major socio-economic problem, especially when it includes the death of a family’s sole provider as well as the working households in the area they specialize. For example, in Zanzibar the death of a breadwinner causes a significant deduction in production, and in the rural areas or other areas of communal production (Programmer De IOTA sure lee VII/SAID et lee monde du travail 2004). In conclusion, it is important to fully understand and comprehend the affect this disease has brought to Africa. The difficulties of AIDS can be seen from a household level to the whole population. Kopi Anna puts well when he said, â€Å"The global HIVE AIDS epidemic is an unprecedented crisis that requires an unprecedented response. In particular it requires solidarity between the healthy and the sick, between rich and or, and above all, between richer and poorer nations. We have 30 million orphans already. How many more do we have to get, to wake up? † (â€Å"Fighting aids,†). Also, Bill Clinton said â€Å"AIDS is no longer a death sentence for those who can get the medicines. Now it’s up to the politicians to create the ‘comprehensive strategies’ to better treat the disease. How to cite Ms. Sakshi, Papers

Journal Of Poverty International Development - MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Journal Of PovertyInternational Development. Answer: Introduction Poverty can be portrayed as an inability to endure the cost of a satisfactory standard of utilization (Alkire and Santos 2014). Monetary experts have appeared differently in relation to reference to whether poverty should be considered in all out terms, as falling underneath some settled minimum usage level, or whether it should be described in relative terms, so poverty suggests inability to manage the cost of what ordinary people have. Discussion To comprehend the danger of the issue of destitution process or poverty, it is important to know its measurement and the procedure through which it is by all accounts developed. Income, Education, Health, Food/nourishment, Safe water/Sanitation, Labor/work, Housing, Access to beneficial resources, Access to business sectors and group, investment/Social peace. Each of these measurements as pointers with weights are summed up together in the Multi dimensional poverty index and utilized to gauge the general neediness and the level of improvement (Hdr.undp.org 2018). The multi-dimensional pointers of poverty can be advantaged to states and nations keeping in mind the end goal to decide and evaluate the attributes of destitution and actualize the reasonable projects to lessen and take out neediness. The strengths of the index are: Effectiveness: Multi-dimensional markers of neediness estimations have quick handy applications and can be utilized to supplant, supplement or join with the official measure of salary destitution (Ophi.org.uk 2018). Models: Multi-dimensional markers of destitution can be demonstrated to address a wide cluster of various components including the foundational changes that need to occur with a specific end goal to empower total neediness decrease at the level of a group or a general public in a state (Bn et al. 2014). Identifications: By recognizing the neediness structure the multi-dimensional approach can be to a great degree valuable so as to execute financial activities to lessen destitution dissemination (Dotter and Klasen 2017). Comparison: The Multi-dimensional markers gives a sensibly beginning stage to look at every individual's accomplishment against the separate measurements particular shorts and take after that general methodology (Ophi.org.uk 2018). Calculation: Utilizing multidimensional pointers can be utilized to compute prosperity for various gatherings in the populace, for example, individuals from a specific area, ethnic gatherings or sex and it can change for the span of the gathering it is being ascertaining for taking into consideration meaning global examinations crosswise over various states (Dotter and Klasen 2017). Robustness: The power of key measures suspicions, for example, the weighted connected to markers, to guarantee that prominent correlations are strong to screen changes in estimated suppositions. The engaging effortlessness of the MPI, nonetheless, includes some significant pitfalls. The MPI has some major limitations (Headey and Barrett 2015): Since the MPI basically tallies the quantity of things needed by families, it expect that no connection exists between them time (Alkire and Santos 2014). This presumption isn't reasonable. The MPI does not capture inequality. Poorer populations also consist of wide ranges of poverty gaps and unequal measurements of indicators. The particular structure of the MPI suggests tricky twists (Bn et al. 2014). It prompts an expansion in destitution rates that builds the poorer a nation and subsequently the severer its spending limitations. Other relevant approaches of poverty like Head-Count Index, Poverty Gap Index, Human Poverty Index(HPI),Human Development Index falls irrelevant to the MPI since it is the only measurement or index used globally that include the maximum number of parameters for determining the poverty level among the population. Hence Multi-dimensional Poverty Index (MPI) has been chosen for the analysis of the assignment. Multi-dimensional Poverty Index ISO Country Code Country World Region Survey Year MPI=H*A Headcount Ratio(H) Intensity of deprivation among the poor(A) No. of indicators included(out of 10) NER Niger Sub-Saharan Africa DHS 2012 0.620 95.5 65.0 10 ETH Ethiopia Sub-Saharan Africa DHS 2011 0.582 94.2 61.8 10 TCD Chad Sub-Saharan Africa DHS 2014-15 0.575 96.2 59.8 10 SSD South Sudan Sub-Saharan Africa MICS 2010 0.575 98.0 58.7 10 BFA Burkina Faso Sub-Saharan Africa DHS 2010 0.553 91.1 60.7 10 SOM Somalia Arab States MICS 2006 0.538 90.6 59.3 10 SLE Sierra Leone Sub-Saharan Africa DHS 2013 0.495 92.9 53.3 10 GIN Guinea Sub-Saharan Africa DHS-MICS 2012 0.493 88.2 55.8 10 BDI Burundi Sub-Saharan Africa DHS 2010 0.490 94.9 51.6 10 MLI Mali Sub-Saharan Africa DHS 2012-13 0.485 88.7 54.6 10 Table 1: Multi -dimensional Poverty Index result of 10 poor countries Source: (Alkire and Robles 2017). Conclusion Thus it can be clearly seen that development and poverty are two sides of the same pillars. Multi-dimensional indicators are perceived as better techniques to gauge and distinguish poor people. The recognizable proof system concerns both the hardship in each measurement and the neediness definition over all measurements. What's more, if state organizations and governments carry out their activity well, at that point with only a little exertion, the noteworthy decreases in the extent of poverty should be possible with a compelling increment in the advancement. The legalization of Marijuana Essays (869 words) - Drug Control Law

In the documentary The Union: The Business Behind Getting High, Adam Scorgie argues about the international effects of marijuana and how the citizens of the world benefit from it?s use. Scorgie compares how societies operate today with marijuana being illegal, to how the world would react to the legalization of marijuana. He uses logical and emotional arguments, logos and pathos, along with interviews of both average people and people who have a higher level of education to prove that marijuana helps economies as well as a societies. He also presents facts that the use of marijuana does not have a negative impact on the user?s mentality and behavior. Scorgie uses logos to show how the ?Union? positively benefits a community economically. In the documentary, Scorgie talks about places called Grow Ups. Grow Ups are where pot can be grown inside of a house and/or a shed. In every Grow Up community, each member has their own assigned job that they do to make daily operation run smoothly. Realtors sell homes to growers, carpenters shape the homes for the growers? convenience, and electricians install the specifically bright lights necessary for the operation and divert the energy elsewhere so that the power use is not suspicious. Even though the realtors, carpenters, and electricians are crooked, the police are still upholding their duties to catch growers and finding these Grow Ups. This shows that the Grow Ups allow for the ability everyone to have a job and a steady income to support families and themselves, if needed. It helps us realize even though it is illegal, this process involves so many people. This also puts marijuana at a higher demand since it is illegal. Scorgie also looks at the argument of marijuana causing violence. He makes it clear that it is because of the prohibition of marijuana. If one cannot sell pot and they are caught selling it, they are considered a criminal. When in reality, this person is selling something that is natural and it has not caused any deaths. Then my question to you, is why is it legal for tobacco companies to sell cigarettes when nicotine and tobacco have caused four hundred thousand deaths a year? Most people do not know that marijuana was legal at one time and that it was an agricultural crop used for many purposes; none of these purposes have ever been harmful to societies in any way. As Scorgie describes this subject, he goes on to argue that marijuana is not exactly the drug that most people make it out to be. He uses a lot of pathos to persuade his audience that marijuana does not cause lung cancer or damage brain cells by interviewing medical examiners and researchers. There was a doctor who had performed an experiment on monkeys to prove that the drug can kill brain cells and cause malfunctions. In this experiment, the doctor put masks over the monkeys? nose and mouth and pumped the amount of thirty joints into the monkeys? system. The doctor had failed to mention that he was limiting the monkeys? oxygen amount which entailed to suffocating them. This experiment shows how the dishonesty of one doctor can sway a person?s opinion to agree that marijuana cannot cause somet hing as drastic as killing brain cells or lung cancer. The leading cause deaths in the United States are drugs that do not contain marijuana but are tobacco, crack, and heroin along with aids and murder. Studies have shown that tobacco has killed up to four hundred thousand people a year and caffeine can kill up to ten thousand people a year. Marijuana is nowhere near the top in leading causes since there has never been a case where it was the cause of someone?s death. When taking these facts into consideration, it makes this argument easy to trust. Scorgie goes on to argue that marijuana is not something that can hugely harm our society and he also questions whether or not prohibition is necessary. Even after the prohibition, the demand or supply for marijuana has not changed. It is a steady source for income for organized crime. When using the underground market causes violence, eighty-eight percent of marijuana arrests are for

Natural Resources essays

Natural Resources essays Yes, the planet will survive, just as it has for millions of years. And the debate over how to save it will also go on. But one thing is certain-we are destroying our natural resources faster than they can be replaced. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that this is a dangerous equation, an equation for disaster. The global population is increasing, and along with it the need for more food sources, cleaner water, and cheaper energy. To a poor man from a third world country who is simply trying to feed his family, the terms conservation or ecology do not mean much. He does not understand, much less care, that the yuppie upper-east-side Manhattanite who has laid out his coke lines in perfect little rows on his table made from mahogany that was harvested in razed rain forests somewhere in Malysia is contributing to the problem, by encouraging industry to pay the poor farmer a few dollars a day for years of irreversible damage to the forest. The poor farmer does not know that the forest floor he burned to plant crops to grow grain to feed cattle that are sold to packing companies to make the hamburger you or I bought yesterday at the fast-food restaurant is never going to be the same again, and is totally unsuitable for farming anyway. The time has come, and I agree with the article, to stop thinking about how to solve the problem on a global level and start thinking in terms of solving the problem at the local level, by encouraging the people who live in the affected areas to develop their own solutions, using the resources they have available to them. This is both more economical and feasible. Another idea might be to "rent" the rainforest, paying the countries involved in its destruction subsidies, much like a giant utility, thus discouraging the razing. I want my children's children, and their children, to see the world as I have seen it, before all the animals are gone and there is no clean water left, and ...
